YTown.org – Huron River Watershed (html). In southeastern Michigan, the Huron River Watershed spans a land area of more than 900 square miles and drains water to the Huron River through hundreds of tributary creeks and streams. The river itself flows more than 125 miles from its headwaters at Big Lake, near Pontiac, to its mouth at Lake Erie. The river’s drainage area includes seven Michigan counties (Oakland, Livingston, Ingham, Jackson, Washtenaw, Wayne, Monroe), 63 municipal governments, and a half million residents.

SEMCOG is a voluntary association of local governments fostering cooperative efforts in order to move Southeast Michigan forward.

SEMCOG is a regional planning partnership of governmental units serving 4.8 million people in the seven-county region of Southeast Michigan striving to enhance the region’s quality of life.

Common interests and the desire for collaboration created a stronger region. Throughout their history, SEMCOG’s work has responded to the issues of the time. Today, those issues include data analysis, transportation, community and economic development, air and water quality, infrastructure planning, and education, providing planning resources for member communities while simultaneously garnering funding support for the region as a whole—definitely a win-win situation.

During Founder’s Week, SEMCOG thanks our 59 original members, as well as our 174 current members (seems more like ~165? Members)!

Munetrix Fiscal Data (html)

SEMCOG has partnered with Munetrix to give member communities access to the Munetrix database. Munetrix compiles financial information from all local governments across the state. SEMCOG is available to assist member communities with in-depth analysis of the fiscal information included in this database.
