National Quiet Skies Coalition (html) | aircraft noise pollution | jet noise | air pollution | airplane-airport noise | FAA | NextGen | NQSC. The Quiet Skies Caucus (html) in the United States Congress seeks to raise awareness on the issue of aircraft noise and find meaningful solutions to the problem. The caucus consists of congressional representatives from across the country whose constituents have been impacted by the FAA’s NextGen program.

NextGenNoise.
The three pillars of aircraft noise:
Politics. Money. Lobbyists.
It’s not rocket science.

NextGenRelief. This website is meant to be an educational resource and gathering place for citizens, reporters, regulators, Members of Congress and their staff, and community activist groups all over America dealing with the repercussions of the FAA’s NextGen program. There is a solution here that can both alleviate the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country and support the FAA’s long-term goal of modernizing air traffic, but there has to be some willingness on the part of the FAA to both recognize the problem, and to be willing to negotiate in good faith. Thus far, that has not happened.

N.O.I.S.E. National Organization to Insure a Sound Controlled Environment | America’s Leading Community Voice on Aviation Noise Issues. N.O.I.S.E. advocates for federal policies to reduce unreasonable levels of aviation noise through a combination of quieter aircraft, increased noise abatement resources, and the opportunity for local communities to contribute to airport expansion decisions. Our Mission: We are committed to reducing the impact of aviation noise on local communities by partnering with communities to join and inject the concerns of their constituents into the national debate on airport expansion and other issues relating to the effects of aviation noise.

The presence of frequent, low flying aircraft over our homes, schools, parks, protected open spaces, and wildlife is an unprecedented change to historic, established flight patterns that have been unchanged for decades. They are destroying our way of life and exposing us to horrific levels of unrelenting noise and pollution that can cause high levels of stress and health-related problems.

Airport Closure in the State of California (pdf) 03-03-2020 | Caltrans – California Department of Transportation. Many airports in California were built during World War II to support military air operations such as aircraft maintenance and pilot training. After the war, the military donated the land to local counties and communities. For many years, investments were made in these airports, but currently the number of public use airports are decreasing. In the 1960s there were 275 public use airports, and by 2019 there were 242. In the last decade, eight general aviation airports were either revoked, suspended, or closed to the public. The Division of Aeronautics at Caltrans is seeking an understanding of general aviation airport closure and the threats leading to closure. They are interested in discovering the full extent of economic impacts that airport closures have had on municipalities, counties and the State. Aeronautics have compiled a list of specific closed/threatened airports and is seeking information on the reasons which have led to their closure. The information will be used in developing a marketing strategy and toolkit to assist airport sponsors in writing airport business plans to educate communities on aviation issues.

We are enduring an unrelenting intrusion to our way of life with the non-stop noise and unidentified black soot pollution over us due to KMIA Airport’s and the FAA’s unannounced (and publicly denied) shifting of the flight paths to those being proposed for the latest iteration of the FAA’s Disastrous NextGen Program.

Say no to NextGen (html). Biscayne Bay’s health has recently drawn the attention of MDC Mayor Levine Cava and of Florida Governor DeSantis. The State and the County are now investing money to launch a preservation program aimed at restoring the delicate balance of this complicated ecosystem. It seems completely counterintuitive that at the same time we start flying hundreds of airplanes a day right over its waters. The immediate result will be dumping all sorts of pollutants over the Bay and therefore undoing the restoration efforts currently underway. Go to the get involved section and write an email to Mayor Levine Cava, asking her to stop the Next Gen plan and protect our Bay.

  • Chamblee, Georgia, DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK)
  • Excellent example of Negative Aviation Impacts & Monitoring: August Noise Report. Monthly Noise Report September 2018 (pdf). Prepared by Nate Schattner, Noise & Environmental Analyst. DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) is located in a highly noise-sensitive area as it is surrounded by residential communities. Aircraft noise is noise pollution generated by an aircraft, and may occur during all phases of flight. For instance, while aircraft are on the ground, taxiing, operating auxiliary power units (APUs), and conducting run-ups may contribute noise pollution to the surrounding areas. While aircraft are in the air, noise pollution can occur underneath and to the sides of departure and arrival paths. N203GT is a sign of a habitual community pariah (Amateur Hobbyist Sport Recreational Clowns) wherever the aircraft flies or is located.

Aircraft noise linked with heart problems (html) 10-08-2013 | News | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “Boston, MA — Older people exposed to aircraft noise, especially at high levels, may face increased risk of being hospitalized for cardiovascular disease, according to a new study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). Researchers found that, on average, zip codes with 10-decibel higher aircraft noise had a 3.5% higher cardiovascular hospital admission rate.

It is the first major study to estimate the association between residential exposure to aircraft noise and cardiovascular hospitalizations, using data on the nationally representative U.S. population age 65 and older and noise data from airports across the country.

“It was surprising to find that living close to an airport, and therefore being exposed to aircraft noise, can adversely affect your cardiovascular health, even beyond exposure to air pollution and traffic noise,” said senior author [[Francesca Dominici]], professor of biostatistics and associate dean of information technology at HSPH.”

Logan Airport Health Study (html) 05-28-2014 | Mass.gov. In response to a legislative directive, DPH/BEH conducted an assessment of health impacts of Logan Airport. We designed and conducted a cross-sectional disease and symptom prevalence study. The study focused on residents of 17 communities located within a 5 mile radius of the airport. Our purpose was to investigate associations between potential exposure to airport emissions and adverse respiratory, cardiovascular, and auditory health outcomes among residents.
