US pilots: What’s your thoughts on joining the Civil Air Patrol? (html) : aviation. From my air traffic experiences, a fair amount of the pilots they do get, are retarded.

Civil Air Patrol? (html) : flying. it seems like a lot of people don’t really like/make fun of CAP (at least on Reddit). Never been a huge cosplay or larp [Live action Role Play] guy myself. The BS exists, but it’s worth it to me for the reduced flying costs. Your budget and tolerance for BS may differ. CAP is like a combination of Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts and JROTC.

Anyone here a member of the Civil Air Patrol? (html) : flying. By me there’s a general consensus that they’re number 2 in line for accident rates right behind doctors! It could just be the branch by me but these guys are honestly dangerous to fly with. There seems to be a common denominator of really obnoxious people that are attracted to the organization.

Thoughts on Civil Air Patrol? (html) : flying. Seemed like they all just went to meetings, guffawed about how important they were, and awarded each other higher ranks for doing so. This was my experience as well. That and basically being a rugby club where the older, bigger guys would be on a team against the younger, smaller guys with no hold backs. We call them Silly Air Patrol for a reason. Looking back, it didn’t really benefit in any way, and the grown up side is just a flight club for people that want to pretend they are/were military. Seriously. I never know what they are doing, and it seems most of the time, neither do they.

Civil Air Patrol – are the stories true? (html) : flying. My time in CAP was a minor horror show. Lots of self-important people need to make the activity numbers look good. Your goals are irrelevant. here’s a good-ole-boy network that views the paid-for flying opportunities as “theirs,” so you won’t get a share of the fun until you break into the network. It’s a very self-righteous culture that doesn’t listen. When I was in, CAP had to pay out $12 million because of a crash in Georgia. The pilot who caused three fatalities was named pilot of the year for his state. After trying for a few years to make it work, I decided that almost any other approach to aviation provided a better return to time and money.

What exactly does Civil Air Patrol do? (html) : flying. When I tried CAP in high school it was a bunch of rural kids pretending to be military a bit too hard, and occasionally you’d get to go be a parking lot attendant at an air show.

Anyone here fly for the Civil Air Patrol? (html) : flying. It’s a combination of a bureaucratic mess, having to put up with obnoxious politics and being snickered at for flying a Skyhawk in a flight suit. Don’t expect to fly a lot. Expect to fly even less for ES missions. Generally I agree, it is a bureaucratic mess. Just don’t set your expectations too high.

I, along with many others, have noticed a decline in the organization of the squadron. Many cases where even senior NCOs have had problems with customs and courtesies. I honestly don’t care if I get my PPL through the cadet program. Definitely not worth breaking the bank for or sacrificing participation in other extracurricular activities. How to deal with a homophobic cadet. CAP doesn’t exactly undertake secret missions but if you’re on a mission and that’s the rule, they’ll tell you.

Some get bad reputations, deservingly, for not being particularly effective at SAR and for having a good ol’ boys mentality. Some outfits are terrible beyond description. Nevermind the hate(there is plenty much of it probably deserved). Basically you get to deal with folks that want to play airforce, they ARE NOT INTO FLYING as much as what uniform to wear and SOPs, OPSEC and every other acronym they can think of. Kinda a secret squill club if you ask me, after being a volunteer fire fighter, medic, etc these guys arnt into helping people as much as being part of a lil dorky club. Another waste of tax payer dollars. Yup. CAP is actually a perfect example of gov’t stuff that won’t die. Using civilian planes and pilots to harass uboats in WWII might have been a good idea. But of course the organization re-branded themselves to suck $ [Taxpayer Dollars] when the uboat menace ended. Most of CAPs news articles talk about re-branding themselves to exist in the future, nevermind what the country needs.

Now put them in an airplane that they don’t own, have to fix, and don’t care how they treat it. 100hr inspections would come in 50 hrs past due. oil changes the same way. Finally had one guy burn up 2 engines in three years from poor technique. Jack booted thugs has been my experience. Helicopters hired by the family found it while the CAP drank coffee. My experience with CAP has been similar to many others on the list, and mostly negative. The CAP spends a huge amount of money, flying extremely expensive aircraft for very minimal gain.

Civil Air Patrol (CAP). Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is an auxiliary service of the U. S Air Force. CAP is considered a part of the Air Force and is under military command.  The CAP maintains a network of radio communications.  CAP provides search and rescue services, airborne reconnaissance, transportation, communications support, and damage assessment and augments incident command staff.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) consists of cadets, ages 12 to 20 years old, and senior members who are 18 and older. All members wear uniforms as part of their Civil Air Patrol duties, but the agency is NOT a branch of military service. Repeat, NOT a branch of the military service, roger that?

Civil Air Patrol (CAP) membership does not equate to membership in the military.  Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a private, non-profit humanitarian organization, which is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Civil Air Patrol is a registered 501(C)(3)

What is United States Air Force (USAF) Total Force?

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a Total Force partner and auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force (USAF). The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is there to search for and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster and work to keep the homeland safe.

Total Force Integration, which was launched in the late 1990s, refers to a blending of active, Guard, and Reserve personnel and equipment to gain efficiency and effectiveness in support of the overall Air Force mission. This kind of integration is old hat for deployed forces, not so much for Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Bullies, Clowns, Buffoons and Dolts. What can anyone do with these clowns now?

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has performed certain homeland security missions for federal, state, and local customers, but devotes the majority of its flying hours (approximately 63 percent) to training, youth programs and pointless goofing around wasting taxpayer money. Several factors affect CAP’s ability to support homeland security missions preclude its participation in the interdiction of vehicles, vessels, or aircraft. Even in 2022 / 2023 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has not assessed CAP’s capabilities and resources or determined the extent to which CAP could be used to support future homeland security activities addressing other such limitations such as inadequate imagery capabilities and insufficient detection technology, unskilled, untrained personnel, etc.

However, recent efforts to extend the teaming efforts to forces located at Stateside bases have met considerable political resistance. Various governors, lawmakers, and state adjutants general accuse the Air Force of multiple sins. Among them: giving short shrift to state needs; failing to appreciate the “community first” philosophy of part-time airmen who make up the Guard and Reserve; and treating the reserve components as mere cogs in a giant federal force. The charges and countercharges have sparked a number of official and unofficial studies of the situation. 2022, and many in Industry, Military & Armed Services still call it a “cluster”, if you know what that means . . .
